#55— Sean Walsh—Head Coach/General Mgr.

Coach Walsh began his coaching career in Upstate New York in 1987 and has won four Massachusetts State Championship titles as well as one Cape Cod Baseball League championship with the Bourne Braves in 2003.  He is a graduate of Ithaca College and New York University and in 2012 was named the District 10 American Legion Coach of the Year as well as the District 10 Executive of the Year, as voted by his peers. The 2012 Post 206 players took the program to a new level , last July capturing the Massachusetts State Championship, the first in Post 206 history. To their credit, the players also captured Post 206's first-ever District 10 Championship title with a record of 26-4-1. Barnstable Post 206 American Legion baseball was established in 1921 in Hyannis and last year marked the 92nd year the organization  had fielded a team - with two period in the early 1990s and early 1960s when no team was sponsored by the post.

    The 2013 season marks the sixth year Coach Walsh has been at the helm of Post 206 since being appointed by former Head Coach and General Manager Ted Barnicle, a former standout professional balplayer with the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations.

     Coach Walsh's players have played at such universities as Virginia, Maryland, James Madison, Mississippi, Northeastern, Lafayette, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, URI, UMass-Amherst, Tampa, Wm. & Mary, George Mason, Florida, University of South Florida, Florida Southern, Southern University, Toledo, Miami, Dartmouth, UMass-Dartmouth, Holy Cross, Stetson, Washington State, Columbia, Colby Sawyer, Maine, UConn,  Boston College, UC-Santa Clara, Wichita State,Keene State, Georgia Tech and many more.

     His players have also been drafted by or played for the Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers, New York Yankees, Houston Astros, St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs, Anaheim Angels, Washington Nationals, and Baltimore Orioles.

     His players have played for in the Cape Cod Baseball League for the Hyannis Mets, Cotuit Kettleers, Bourne Braves and Falmouth Commodores.

     Coach Walsh hails from a long descendancy of veterans of every U.S. war dating back to the Pequot War with his 11th great-grandfather, Capt. John Gallop of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. His great-grandfather was an American Legion baseball coach and commander in the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II. He is also a descendant of the 16th President of the U.S., Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) and the Hingham Lincolns as well as the 11th great-grandson of Rev. John Lothrop whose home is now the Sturgis Library in Barnstable Village and was the founder of the town of Barnstable.

     An award-winning journalist and editor for his entire adult professional life with numerous newspapers, Coach Walsh currently writes for America Online ( is a teacher at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. He is also a former United States Marine.
